Karachi Sindh’s Provincial Minister for Social Welfare, Mir Tariq Ali Talpur, has inaugurated the NGOs Help Desk. The primary objective of establishing this help desk is to facilitate the registration of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), address complaints against them, and provide solutions to their operational challenges.
While addressing the inauguration ceremony, the provincial minister stated that the Sindh government continues to process the registration of NGOs. However, due to the requirements set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the registration process has become more stringent. "Only those NGOs that meet the merit criteria and fulfill the necessary legal requirements are being registered," he emphasized.
The minister further clarified that although a complete record of NGOs is available, their monitoring remains essential. To ensure compliance and transparency, the Social Welfare Department has established the NGOs Help Desk, which will address complaints and take action against any violations of ethical and regulatory guidelines.
He also highlighted that all technical institutes operating under the Social Welfare Department provide free education and do not charge any fees from students.
In response to a question, the minister stated that no complaints have been received against welfare organizations affiliated with political parties. Additionally, he pointed out that the U.S. President Donald Trump had ceased funding for USAID, which could potentially create difficulties for some organizations.
The provincial minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing public welfare initiatives and ensuring transparency in the functioning of NGOs.
