Karachi Confirms First Monkeypox Case in Sindh Province

Karachi, Pakistan – Sindh province has reported its first confirmed case of monkeypox, according to official laboratory results released today. The patient, a 29-year-old male resident of District Malir, is currently in isolation at a public hospital in Karachi.

Health officials have confirmed that the individual has no recent history of international travel, raising concerns about potential local transmission. The patient reported the onset of initial symptoms on March 15, 2025.

"We have confirmed the first case of monkeypox in Sindh," stated a spokesperson for the Sindh Health Department. "The patient is receiving appropriate medical care and is in isolation. Our primary focus now is on thorough contact tracing to identify and monitor any potential spread of the virus."

The health department has initiated a comprehensive contact tracing protocol to identify individuals who may have come into contact with the infected person.
