SPARC Celebrates International Youth Day 2025 in Machar Colony

SPARC (Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child) commemorated International Youth Day with the vibrant youth of Machar Colony, Karachi—one of Pakistan’s largest informal settlements. This year’s global theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” spotlighted the transformative power of young people in driving sustainable development at the grassroots level.
Empowering Local Voices SPARC’s celebration focused on:
- Educational empowerment: Highlighting improved access to schools and learning resources for over 2,500 children and youth in Machar Colony.
- Skills development: Showcasing vocational training and income-generating initiatives that have enabled 1,800 residents—especially women—to become financially independent.
- Community uplift: Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive development through youth-led recreational and civic engagement activities.
Youth as Agents of Change The event echoed the UN’s call to recognize youth not just as beneficiaries but as leaders, innovators, and changemakers. By localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Pakistan’s youth are turning global ambitions into community-driven realities.
