Sindh Under Siege: Awami Tehreek Rises Against Federal Exploitation

The central president of the Awami Tehreek, Advocate Vasand Thari, central senior vice president Noor Ahmed Katiar, central deputy general secretary Advocate Raheel Bhutto, central media secretary Kashif Mallah, and leader of Sindhyani Tehreek, Husna Rahujo, held a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club. They stated that the establishment brought the current government into power through a fraudulent election in order to pass laws that would facilitate the looting of the country’s resources. Following the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the Anti-Terrorism ammendment bill was introduced, which trampled basic human rights. The PECA Act was enacted under the guise of controlling social media, but in reality, it is a draconian law meant to silence journalists and the voices of the people.
The same PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) coalition government, with Shehbaz Sharif as Prime Minister, passed these anti-people laws. Now, the 27th Constitutional Amendment is being discussed, and there are reports that a bill for this amendment will be presented in the National Assembly on September 26, 2025. The proposed amendment will remove the autonomy of provinces, giving full control over boundary alterations and the creation of new provinces to the federal government. The Awami Tehreek views this move as extremely dangerous for the country, fearing that it will undermine the integrity of Pakistan.
The establishment is repeating the mistakes made in 1971, when the Bengalis were treated unjustly, leading to the partition of Pakistan. Similarly, the current establishment is involved in anti-national activities that threaten the sovereignty of the provinces. For example, the bogus digital census has underreported the Sindhi population, and the NFC award has not been implemented fairly for Sindh. Additionally, the federal government continues to steal Sindh’s water resources, while the people of Sindh are denied jobs in federal institutions.
In the last elections, the terrorist group MQM was given a boost, and once again, terrorists have been placed in positions of power, forcing the people of Sindh to suffer. Furthermore, the Punjab government is using the recent floods as a cover to push for the construction of new dams like the Kalabagh Dam and canals, diverting attention from the incompetence and corruption of the Punjab and federal governments.
The situation in Sindh is dire, with the provincial resources being exploited mercilessly. The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) law continues to transfer vast tracts of Sindh's land to multinational companies, including Bahria Town, DHA, and others. Land grabbing is widespread, even on historical sites like Karoonjhar, Keenjhar, gorakh and others. Furthermore, the criminal elements in the Kacho are being armed, and drug trade is rampant with the involvement of the police and local officials. The current floods in Sindh have exacerbated the suffering of the people, and the response from the provincial government is virtually non-existent.
The Awami Tehreek will hold a conference in Hyderabad on September 24, 2025, to raise awareness and formulate a joint action plan against the conspiracy to divide Sindh, the construction of new dams, the exploitation of resources, and corruption. A rally will also be held in Kandhkot on September 28, 2025, to protest against the looting of Sindh's water resources and the lawlessness in the region. The people of Sindh are invited to join and raise their voices against these injustices.
