Senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader and Member of the Sindh Assembly,

Senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader and Member of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani, has passed away. He served twice as Speaker of the Sindh Assembly and also held the position of Provincial Minister.


Agha Siraj Durrani had been unwell for quite some time and was under treatment. He passed away on Wednesday. According to family sources, his body will be transported to his hometown, Garhi Yasin, where he will be laid to rest. He was 72 years old and leaves behind a widow and five children.


In terms of his political career, Agha Siraj Durrani was considered one of the prominent figures in Sindh’s political landscape. He belonged to a well-known political family from Garhi Yasin in Shikarpur district. His father, Agha Sadruddin Durrani, and uncle, Agha Badruddin Durrani, both served as Speakers of the Sindh Assembly.


Agha Siraj Durrani was first elected to the Sindh Assembly in 1988 and later served as Minister for Local Government. He was elected from PS Shikarpur-I and served as the 12th Speaker of the Sindh Assembly from 2013 to 2018. He was re-elected from PS Shikarpur-III and served again as the 13th Speaker from 2018 to 2023.


In the 2024 general elections, he won once again and returned to the Sindh Assembly. He was known to be a close associate of Benazir Bhutto and held a distinguished position among the loyal leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
