Sindh Mobilizes for Major Polio Drive Amid Persistent Virus Detection

Karachi, SindhThe Sindh province is mounting one of its largest health mobilizations of the year, preparing for the **December 2025 National Immunization Days (NIDs)** from **December 15–21**. This high-stakes campaign aims to reach **10.6 million children under five** across **1,345 Union Councils in 30 districts** to boost immunity and halt poliovirus transmission.
The Situation on the Ground
While Sindh has made strides in its eradication efforts, the poliovirus continues to circulate, particularly in certain high-risk locations.
* Sindh has reported 9 polio cases in 2025, with the most recent case recorded in **August 2025 in Badin**.
* Cases in 2025 have been contained to **six districts**: Badin, Larkana, Kambar, Thatta, Umerkot, and Hyderabad.
The overall poliovirus activity is alarming, with surveillance continuing to identify the virus in key urban areas, especially through sewage monitoring. This early detection is crucial for enabling the programme to respond quickly and focus resources where children are most at risk.
A Massive Mobilization Effort**
To successfully execute the NIDs, the province is deploying a massive, coordinated workforce:
*Workforce:Over 80,000 frontline workers
Security:Over 21,000 law enforcement personnel, including approximately 400 lady police constables, will support security and access.
Goal: The urgent goal is to reach every child with two safe, effective polio drops to maintain high immunity and support the final campaign of 2025
