NASIRABAD The quiet village of Nanger Jethial became the center of a political firestorm on Sunday as leaders of the Awami Tehreek gathered to pay rich tribute to late party stalwart, Riaz Budh. What began as a solemn memorial evolved into a fierce critique of current federal and provincial policies, with speakers labeling recent corporate initiatives as an "occupation" of Sindh’s territorial integrity.
The Legacy of Riaz Budh
Party leaders, including Central General Secretary Sajid Hussain Mahesar, laid floral wreaths at the grave of the late leader. They remembered Riaz Budh as a "soldier of the soil" who remained a steadfast follower of Rasool Bux Palijo’s philosophy until his final breath.
The Charge Sheet against SIFC & Corporate Farming
In a blistering keynote, Sajid Hussain Mahesar alleged that under the guise of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the "Green Pakistan" initiative, the country’s natural resources—from Gilgit to Gorakh—are being sold off. He specifically highlighted:
- Land Encroachment: Allegations that islands, including Shah Hussain Island, and vast forest lands are being occupied for corporate farming.
- Tourism at Risk: Central Joint Secretary Mah Noor Mallah warned that historic sites like the Karoonjhar Mountains, Keenjhar Lake, and Gorakh Hill are under threat. She slammed the dilapidated state of roads leading to these cultural landmarks as a deliberate "attack on Sindh’s heritage."
Lawlessness in Qambar-Shahdadkot
Local leaders, including District President Imdad Ali Pathan and Rafiq Laghari, voiced outrage over the collapsing law and order situation in the Qambar-Shahdadkot district. They alleged that citizens are being looted openly while the police remain "silent spectators."
Political Demands
The gathering concluded with a unanimous demand for the removal of Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, accusing him of undermining provincial unity. The speakers further dismissed the PPP-led provincial government's recent resolutions as "fake dramas," calling for practical resistance against the federal takeover of Sindh’s islands.
