Government Music Teachers Protest in Karachi: Police Baton Charge, Several Detained

Government-appointed music teachers staged a protest in Karachi, attempting to enter the Red Zone, which led to a police baton charge. Several protesters were detained and taken away in police vans. In a unique form of demonstration, the teachers held a musical performance right on the street, drawing the attention of even the police officers.
The protesters claimed that although 319 music teachers were recruited by the government two years ago, they have yet to receive their official joining letters. Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah responded, stating that the Sindh High Court had annulled the recruitments and directed the government to re-advertise the positions. He added that the teachers cannot be issued joining letters against the court’s decision. He suggested two possible solutions: either retake the test through IBA or challenge the decision in court.
