The traditional rural sport of Malakhra from Sindh is beginning to gain the attention of the Sindh government. The Sports Department of Sindh has officially inaugurated a two-day All-Sindh Malakhra event in the Sachal Goth area of Karachi.
More than 100 Malh wrestlers from 30 districts of Sindh are participating in the event. The opening ceremony was attended by Pakistan Peoples Party leader Taj Muhammad Wassan, District Sports Officers Ismail Shah, Sunny Parvez, Muhammad Usman, Shakeel Ahmed, and other notable figures.
During the ceremony, renowned Malh wrestlers from Sindh—including Qurban Hothipoto, Mubarak Mallah, Jan Muhammad Lund, and Munthar Bugti—showcased their strength and technique, defeating their opponents with skill. Wrestlers Manzoor Bhatti and Mashooq Gopang from Badin, as well as Bijli Khaskheli from Karachi, also took part in the competition.
According to the District Sports Officer East, the All-Sindh Malakhra Competition 2025 features three wrestlers from each district of the province. A spokesperson for the Sindh Sports Department stated that the government is fully supporting traditional rural sports, and the purpose of this event is to connect the younger generation with their cultural heritage and traditions.
