Facing a situation so dire that the organization has been forced to lay off 80% of its workforce, the remaining 13 employees also see a dark and uncertain future ahead.
This is not just the story of one organization; it is a mirror reflecting a deeper, more complex problem spreading throughout the media industry in Pakistan.
The Cost of Progress at the Expense of Humanity
When you first started working at Dawn News, it was a pleasure to be among a hardworking and professional team. The work environment, the exceptional reporting standards, and the sense of journalistic freedom drew every newcomer in. But gradually, everything changed. When media owners saw profits declining, they began dismissing employees without hesitation.
This is not only Dawn News’ story—media houses across Pakistan have adopted the same approach. Owners now look at workers as raw material, disposable at any time.
